400 barrel tank dimensions
- Diameter: 12 feet
- Height: 20 feet
- Capacity full to the top: about 403 barrels
- Per foot of gauge: 20.1 barrels
A 300 bbl tank is usually also 12 feet wide but only 15 feet tall, so this chart works for it up to 15 feet. Builders vary, so measure your diameter: wrap a tape around the tank and divide by 3.1416.
Working out a load
Subtract the closing gauge from the opening gauge. For example, an opening gauge of 14 ft 6 in (292.1 bbl) and a closing gauge of 2 ft 3 in (45.3 bbl) is 246.8 gross barrels. The tank barrels per inch calculator does this for any tank size, and the net oil calculator turns gross barrels into the net barrels the purchaser pays on.
Use the strapping table that came with your tank for sales and reporting. This chart is an ideal cylinder for quick checks in the field.
